Dr. David Greenhalgh came to Eastern University in the summer of 1993. Prior to that, he had spent 22 years in school administration, 11 years working with the Deaf in Providence, Rhode Island and 11 years as the founding headmaster of West Bay Christian Academy also in Rhode Island. During this time he completed a bachelor’s degree in History, a Masters in European History with a thesis on the Dreyfus Affair, a masters in school administration and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Boston University. His dissertation was on the assessment of the moral atmosphere of schools.
Since coming to Eastern, Dr. Greenhalgh earned the rank of full professor, teaching courses on Philosophy of Education, Foundations, Moral Education, Teaching in the Christian school, School Governance and Education in a Global Context. Dr. Greenhalgh initiated our certification program in educational leadership to prepare principals and superintendents. He served as Dean of Arts and Sciences 2003—2006 and currently directs a PhD program in Organizational Leadership. His research and publications have been in the area of spiritual formation, character, strategic planning and cultural diversity.
He has enjoyed three year-long sabbaticals in his professional career. The first he taught in a rural village in Mexico, the second at a missionary school in Papua New Guinea and the third con-sulting at 30 schools and universities in 23 countries throughout Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe.
Dr. Greenhalgh is the author of PlanIt, a manual and software on strategic planning. This publication has been used to train over a thousand trustees and school administrators throughout the US, Canada, and 30 countries in Europe, Central America, Africa and Asia.
He is married to Ellie for 38 years, has four adult children, and six grandchildren.
He is an elder at Church of the Saviour and has been ordained to preach and officiate at baptisms, weddings and memorial services.
