Cross-Cultural Experience: I have lived in Japan since 1973, when I came here to study the Tea Ceremony. I have been married to a Japanese man since 1975 and lived in ordinary Japanese neighborhoods for 30+ years and now live outside Tokyo (Nagano Prefecture). Before becoming a therapist, I worked in several Japanese workplaces and earned a Master's Degree in Comparative Culture at International Christian U. in Tokyo, and later worked at its Counseling Center. I received my MSW from Boston University in 1997 - that experience was a great exercise in reverse culture shock that I find very valuable now in my work. I have worked with clients from every continent but Antarctica. I am a long-time member of International Mental Health Professionals Japan ( www.imhpj.org) and serve on its Board.
